Stokes Bay - Hillhead Sunday 21st March 2010

Of the two trips programmed for last Sunday, 8 members opted for the gentile 10 mile mooch along the seafront from Stokes Bay to Hillhead and were justly rewarded for their lack of adventure with blue sky and a glassy sea.

Wey Navigation 13th/14th March 2010

Saturday morning in Send Scout hut and Tim is delivering the briefing for that day's trip from Send to Godalming.

Triggs Lock, the second of the 16 locks that we encountered during the weekend.

Disembarking onto this floating pontoon required a team effort.

I wouldn't touch this pub (the Rowbarge at Guildford) with a barge pole. The landlord certainly doesn't like kayakers!

A happy paddler waiting for everyone to get on the water at Millmead Lock, Guildford.

John lending helping hands at yet another get-out point.

Sunday morning dawned bright and fair. The Scout hut is only just a few yards from the waterside - so at least we didn't have much carrying at the start of the day!

Newark Lock the second of today's eight locks and portages.

Heading up a backwater towards Newark Priory.

Coffee break at Pyrford Lock.

Steve in front of Coxes Mill after he'd shot the weir.

Wharf bridge and pool at Weybridge

Steve and John playing at Shepperton Weir at the end of the trip.

A couple of photos

"One swallow doesn't make a Spring" but here's a couple of photos taken in the last few days - surely it's only around the corner!

Eastney to Bracklesham Bay - Sunday 7th March 2010

Last Sunday two trips were programmed to take place. By all accounts a good number of members took advantage of the River Hamble trip which was extended to take in the sights of Southampton Water and Calshot. I decided to join the four paddlers that fancied a blast along the coast from Eastney to Bracklesham Bay and a blast is certainly what we got as we battled headlong into a bitterly cold North Easterly..... but it was fun! (in a sort of salt encrusted, teeth chattering way). Music by Mike Oldfield
