Monday 5th April 2010 - Tipner to Portchester Castle

In the abscence of a PDCC trip, several 'peer' paddles took place over the April Bank Holiday weekend, there were reports of members paddling their way into many of the 'nooks & crannies' of our home turf or should that be 'surf & turf'? ~ sorry, not funny (what a prawn).

Four of us took the opportunity to fit a paddle in before joining the first Monday evening training session of 2010; which, by the way, had a pretty decent turn out.

We set off from Tipner with the intention of a lazy mooch to Portchester Castle, although once out of the lee of Whale Island we realised that we were going to have to put some work in. So, tempted by the promise of some 'freeriding' on a following sea we set a course into the gusting South Westerly and paddled out into an exposed Portsmouth Harbour before veering North in the direction of Portchester Castle. Our hopes were fulfilled as we enjoyed a downwind glide on the backs of some playful wind waves as they surged their way up the Harbour.

We arrived at the impressive Roman Fort, a little dishevelled, but in good time; and it was purely with a feeling of obligation and respect for the civilisation that brought us this historic building that we partook in a culinary celebration of this ancient culture...... "Justa one cornetto, geeve eet to meee!!!"

Anyhow, here's a bit of video for those that didn't manage to get out at the weekend.
