Isle of Wight Circumnavigation 2009

The Club's annual circumnavigation of the IOW last weekend was combined with a charity paddle organised by the Upper Hamble Club, so we were a group of 25. Starting from Lee on Solent, the first hazard was the crossing to the island.

Near perfect weather for the Needles,

allowed some play,

and a well earnt break at Scratchell's.

With such a large party, the overnight stay was arranged at Grange Chine campsite.

The second day dawned grey, but the sun came out beyond St. Catherine's. Giving us another fine day to complete the 55nm.

The Club is organising a paddle in aid of the RNLI to coincide with the RNLI Eastney open day, so there will be lots for the family to do as well.

Monday Training 29 June 2009

Eastney Entrance was perfect for cooling off after the baking heat of the day, and escaping Wimbledon on TV.

Sharing the water for a few moments with the gravel ship, before heading off for the eddies around the ferry pontoon on the Hayling side.

Monday Night Training

Perfect weather for this weeks training session at Eastney. First the briefing,

then, getting on the water,

rafting up,

practising turning strokes,

starting the ferry glide across the entrance,

the crossing. By the time everyone came back, suitably bedraggled, from rescues and rolling, it was too dark for photography.
